Stats are a little deceptive, as the increase in the price of new homes seems to continue to distort the average a little bit.
With the real estate market having been fueled by record low interest rates, use caution when deciding how much to spend on a home. Don't borrow to the maximum of what you can qualify for and make certain you have enough flexibility in your budget to be able to absorb an interest rate increase when they do increase.
